Singer-songwriter Kate Hinote (Blueflowers & Kate Hinote Trio)
Tuesday Aug 18, 2020
Tuesday Aug 18, 2020
Singer Kate Hinote is a Detroit-based artist with an incredible voice; she's been performing and recording music for more than a decade, having broken out on the scene in the mid-2000s with the shoegaze duo Ether Aura. Over the last decade, audiences have come to know her as the frontperson for the folk-noir ensemble the Blueflowers, but lately, she formed the Kate Hinote Trio, featuring her longtime Blueflowers bandmate, David Johnson, on guitar and Matthew Parmenter (Discipline and Algebra Mothers) on violin. This trio was initially set to be part of the library's Summer Concert Series, but since we had to sadly cancel that date, we decided to link up through this podcast so that Hinote could share some insights into how to overcome stage-fright, as well as reveal a bit more about what to expect in the year ahead from the Kate Hinote trio.

Thursday Jul 30, 2020

Ferraro is a macro photographer and a conservation photographer; his images
tell the story of a very tiny world inhabited by important organisms that all
have roles to play in creating harmony for our ecosystem. Random patches
of nature in urban environments become sources of new insects that Ferraro
can observe, track, and take photos of on their own terms, never harming
them or taking them out of their environment.

displayed here in the library. That is, before the shutdown. So, we talk
about our high hopes for finally getting to coordinate the art show here
in the library in the very near future, as well as his passion for nature and
science. We also talk about how he manages to capture amazingly
close-up images of the smallest creatures on the planet.
