Donald Levin’s ‘Arsenal of Deceit’ is a compelling and thought-provoking exploration of the intricate web of deception that shapes the world of politics and racism. With meticulous research and a keen eye for local detail, Levin exposes the hidden agendas and manipulative tactics employed by governments and intelligence agencies. A seamless blend of history, geopolitics, and espionage, the book unveils a complex landscape of covert operations and disinformation campaigns, offering readers a captivating journey into the realm of global intrigue. ‘Arsenal of Deceit’ is an eye-opening look at 1940s Detroit and a timely work that challenges our perceptions of power, trust and relationships. A great companion volume to Levin’s 1930s noir Detroit exposè, Savage City.

Saturday Aug 19, 2023
Saturday Aug 19, 2023
Listen to two millennials and one elder-zoomer share their love of the 1980 musical-comedy The Blues Brothers. It was almost 45-years ago, to the day, that John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd performed at the Universal Amphitheatre, in L.A., essentially kicking off the fervor of popularity for the dynamic duo. It's also, sadly, the 5 year anniversary of the passing of the great Aretha Franklin, who famously appeared in this John Landis film. We share our analysis through a 2023 lens and celebrate its strong themes of loyalty, friendship, and the power of music. We encourage YOU to seek out a circulating copy of the film, on either DVD or BluRay, from your local library.

This year, thanks to the Friends of the Ferndale Library, the Theatre Bizarre Orchestra will bring their zesty variety of jazz to the library's Summer Concert Series on August 22 at 6:30 pm. This is a free, all-ages show, hosted in the library's program room--don't miss it!
